How to Schedule an Email in Outlook

Sometimes you write an email outside of business hours or want it to arrive at a specific time. Outlook lets you schedule emails to be sent later in both the desktop app and on the web.

Scheduling an email to be sent later in Microsoft Outlook

In the Outlook desktop app

Create a new email and fill in the recipient, subject and message as normal. Instead of clicking Send, click the Options tab at the top. Click Delay Delivery. Under Do not deliver before, set the date and time you want the email to be sent. Click Close, then click Send. The email will sit in your Outbox until the scheduled time, and then Outlook will send it automatically. Note that in the desktop app your computer and Outlook need to be open at the scheduled time for the email to send. This does not apply to Outlook on the web, which sends from Microsoft's servers even if your computer is off.

In Outlook on the web

Delayed delivery and scheduled send settings in Outlook

Go to outlook.cloud.microsoft and sign in. Create a new email and fill in the details as normal. Instead of clicking Send, click the small dropdown arrow next to the Send button. Click Schedule send. You can choose one of the suggested times or click Custom time to pick your own date and time. Click Send. The email will be sent at your chosen time, even if your computer is off, since Outlook on the web handles it from the server.

How to cancel a scheduled email

In the desktop app, go to your Outbox folder, open the email and either delete it or change the delivery time. In Outlook on the web, go to your Drafts folder where scheduled emails are kept until they are sent. Open the email and click Cancel send.

When to get help

If scheduled emails are not sending at the expected time or if emails are stuck in your Outbox, there may be a sync or configuration issue with your Outlook account. Recloud can troubleshoot and resolve email delivery issues for you.
