Having your work email on your phone means you can check and respond to messages when you are away from your desk. Here is how to set up the Outlook app on both Android and iPhone.
On Android
Open the Google Play Store and search for Microsoft Outlook. Tap Install. Once installed, open the app. Tap Add Account and enter your work email address. Tap Continue. Enter your password and complete any sign-in steps, such as approving a notification on Microsoft Authenticator if your organisation uses it. Once signed in, your inbox will start syncing. Your calendar and contacts will also sync automatically.
On iPhone
Open the App Store and search for Microsoft Outlook. Tap the download button. Once installed, open the app. Tap Add Account and enter your work email address. Tap Continue. Enter your password and complete any additional sign-in steps. Once signed in, your inbox, calendar and contacts will sync automatically.
Turning notifications on or off
By default Outlook will send you notifications for new emails. If you find this distracting, open Outlook, tap your profile picture in the top left, tap the gear icon for Settings, then tap Notifications. You can choose to receive notifications for all emails, only focused inbox emails, or turn them off entirely.
Adding a second account
If you have more than one email account, you can add it in the same app. Open Outlook, tap your profile picture in the top left, tap the gear icon, then tap Add Mail Account. Follow the same sign-in steps.
When to get help
If Outlook will not sign in on your phone, keeps asking for your password repeatedly or shows an error about your account, the issue is usually related to multi-factor authentication or app permissions. Contact your IT provider to check your account settings.
