Setting up a printer on Windows 11 is usually straightforward, especially if the printer is connected to the same network as your computer.
Before you start
Make sure your printer is powered on and connected to your Wi-Fi network. Most modern printers have a small screen or indicator light that confirms the network connection. If you are using a USB printer, plug the cable into your computer first.
How to add the printer
Click the Start button and open Settings. Click on Bluetooth and devices, then click on Printers and scanners. Click Add device. Windows will search for available printers. When your printer appears in the list, click on it and then click Add device. Windows will install the necessary drivers automatically.
If your printer does not appear
Make sure the printer is on the same Wi-Fi network as your computer. If it still does not show up, click on Add manually just below the search results. You can then search by printer name or enter the printer details yourself.
How to set it as your default printer
If you have more than one printer and want this one to be used automatically, go back to Printers and scanners in Settings. Click on your printer and then click Set as default.
How to print a test page
Once the printer is added, click on it in the Printers and scanners list, then click Print test page. If the test page prints successfully, you are all set.
When to get help
If the printer does not appear at all, will not print or keeps showing as offline, there may be a driver or network issue that needs troubleshooting. Rather than spending hours on it, get someone to take a look.
